Applied for this in July 1st, however when i called West Jet, they would not honour the free upgrade to Silver Status. Rep indicated that she wasnt aware of this promotional offer. So i called RBC and got the card cancel to avoid paying the $120 annual fee since i wont be using the card. Has anyone gotten the deal yet without going through a google pay link? I tried on several devices in different locations in Edmonton and have not been able to find the link via google searching "RBC West Jet mastercard promo". So i called RBC and got the card cancel to avoid paying the $120 annual fee since i wont be using the card. I applied on July 4, and received the card and $350 WJ$ and the companion voucher a few days ago but not the silver tier. I got bounced around between West Jet and RBC a few times before I got a reference number for this case from RBC. Basically, this offer was created by RBC credit card, so they're responsible to sort this out. The problem is some agents would claim that they have never seen such promotion even after having gone through all the past promotions. Yet I ended up speaking to an agent who found such promotion. She still didn't know why I didn't get the silver tier, so she gave me a reference number and asked me to call back after 7 business days if I still didn't get the silver tier status. So I am in the waiting game now but i don't see why they would not honour the offer that they made public. Cancellation without any compensation (CC application affected my credit rating) isn't acceptable. I found that blurb in the legal of the new promotion in July for $250 WJD and FYF. Assumed the 30 day waiting time was the same as our offer in June, odd it has February 2020 though since it's a newer promotion. Oddly enough it says January 2020 for silver status, which clearly isn't a year. I found that blurb in the legal of the new promotion in July for $250 WJD and FYF. Some are getting nothing at all and others are only getting partial benefits. Called RBC and they said everything good on their side, mentioned the $350 so I felt good about that at least. Discouraged that it takes longer to get Silver status.. Does anyone have a screen shot of the original rbc application page for this? Received my Silver status but no Westjet dollars or companion fee, anybody have the same experience? This offer is non-transferable and is not redeemable for cash. It's been a little over a month since my first purchase and my first statement has already posted? July 30 - Received and activated card August 1 - Made 1st Purchase August 14 - Received companion voucher, $250 credit and my credit card statement shows no annual fee. Royal Bank of Canada reserves the right to cancel, modify or withdraw or deny this offer at any time. From my understanding, the most recent promotion is $250 with first year free. Previous had this card about 2 years ago, but cancelled after one year. And keep in mind each price will have the standard taxes and fees bill added to it as well. But some unfortunate changes to the voucher are taking effect on April 1, 2020. Yes, the companion voucher is going to cost more to use. Here’s the new pricing structure for using the voucher starting on April 1: It certainly isn’t great news. An extra $20 is not a terrible increase for the Canada and Continental U. voucher, but the increase of $100 for sun destinations is a tough one to swallow. Mastercard concierge service is also being lost as part of these changes, but all the World Elite Mastercard benefits are still available. And RBC has stated that exciting new benefits are coming in its place. The companion voucher with the is also changing, but this time for the better. Right now, the companion voucher costs $199 plus taxes and fees for flights within Canada. If you’re not enamoured with these changes, here are a few alternatives to keep in mind. Now, it’s being expanded to include the Continental U. Keep in mind the Westjet card’s normal rate of return is 1.5%, so all 4 of these cards beat that by a significant margin. When it comes to companion vouchers, it can be hard to find ones that let you pay cash for the 2nd ticket. West Coast, with no options to use your voucher within Canada. But for the right person, the voucher can be of great value. Usually you have to redeem extra miles, which may not be possible depending on your reward bank. C, and a few border cities like Seattle and Detroit. It costs $99 USD (roughly $130 CAD) plus taxes and fees to use. In this regard, the voucher that comes with the is one of the few choices available in Canada. And while that’s more than the West Jet voucher, Alaska Airlines taxes and fees are lower than West Jet. And that same price applies to anywhere Alaska flies, including Mexico and Hawaii, where the Westjet Voucher will cost $399 to use. And the miles you earn are more flexible with Alaska. They can be used not only on Alaska Airlines, but its partners as well, some of which include: And the card has a lower annual fee of $75, with no income requirements (compared to the requirements of $80,000 personal and $150,000 household on the West Jet card). For a few more perks, you could get the It has the same earn rates and voucher. But you’ll get free checked bags on Alaska Airlines for yourself and 5 others travelling on the same itinerary, and get the World Elite Mastercard perks as well for a slightly higher annual fee of $99. The rest of the cards here don’t have companion vouchers, but instead will just earn you more rewards when compared to the base 1.5% earn rate of the West Jet RBC World Elite Mastercard. And how could we not talk about our #1 ranked credit card, the With this card, you’ll earn up to 5 Amex Membership rewards points per $1 spent. Maximize the chart, and you can get a value of up to 1.75 cents per point. On a typical $2,000 monthly spend, you’d earn 51,600 points every year. That’s a return of up to 3.76% – 2.5 times better than the standard 1.5% of the West Jet card. You can also pay for any travel purchase you make with the card using your points, where each point is worth 1 cent, and you’ve got a return of 2.15% – still better than West Jet. And there are options to transfer to Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors, as well as a host of other redemption options. You can redeem to these 6 airlines, including Aeroplan and British Airways at 1:1 ratios: We’ll focus on Aeroplan, which for most people will be the transfer option of choice. We value an Aeroplan mile at up to 2.5 cents when redeemed for flights within North America. Earning up to 2 points per $1 spent, based on a typical monthly spend you’d earn 33,000 points per year, giving a return of up to 3.44% – more than double what West Jet gives. And if the airline transfers don’t work out, you’ve got all the Amex Membership Rewards options listed above to fall back on as well. You’ll earn up to 1.5 miles per $1 spent on your purchases. A typical $2,000 monthly spend would give you 28,500 miles per year. That’s a return of 2.97% – almost double that of West Jet.

One of the visa reps mention they sometimes have promotions to get 15% more points on conversion. Edit: people are mentioning the companion flight benefits but how about the usage of actual points? Keep in mind the reward exchange from RBC Infinite is pretty awful. I have the Infinite Avion, which has an annual $120 fee. Got the 15000 points for signing up and accumulated about 80000 more on purchases. Just recently used up 92xxx points for about $800 worth in rewards. So technically, it cost $92000 to get $800 back, plus the annual fee. If you use the free cards such as the RBC Cash Back, which gives 1% back on all purchases and 2% on groceries, you would have gotten $920 back instead of $800 from a restricted catalogue. The only way I can now justify keeping this card is for flights that are only adjacent to Alberta, since it costs 15000 points for a round trip to any city. It still isn't even worth it to accumulate points for long haul domestic or international flights because of the maximum ticket price as per the redemption grid. You'll get better value converting out your points to Avios. For example YEG or YYC to Seattle is only 7,500 points. American Airlines has some good redemptions too, you can see how many miles it will cost on their site before transferring the points. Just do a search and check the use miles box The big perk of the Westjet card is the companion fare. If you have a travel companion and fly West Jet the card makes a lot of sense. If you travel solo or aren't particularly loyal to West Jet the Avion card makes more sense because it has more partners and you can even transfer to West Jet if you change your mind. RBC lets you product change cards if you find the card isn't working for you. I had the same choice and I went for West jet Elite given the tradeoffs and my spending level. My monthly spending were below 1000$ a month, at which rate even if Avion offered attractive conversion options, they were useless for me. In comparison, on it's own WJ seemed like an inferior card. But the companion pass baggage fee made me go for it. I looked at the use of west jet dollars, and between Vancouver and Toronto, I could get a one way flight for as low as 125 west jet dollars tax. So welcome bonus was worth a return flight for me (Avion bonus would have covered only the 1-way trip, in comparison. The companion pass benefits, although were attractive (and made me chose WJ), seemed somewhat tricky to me. There are times when YVR-YYZ flights get to 500$ , where a companion seems like it would be a big benefit. However, I can only use companion pass when I also fly, and for return flights. For high-price days, I would have to suck up one high price ticket (and Kayak etc are ruled out). In comparison, Avion gives 1 RBC point per dollar ( 25% if used for travel related conversions). So the companion pass benefits would be somewhat negated by the higher ticket price. I would need 15000 Avion points for a 1-way flight redemption in the US (with a flight price cap of 350$). Nevertheless, it seemed worth much more than the yearly fee. I could get a 1 way flight in Canada-US for 125-200 WJ dollars plus tax (~35-50$) with seasonal availability. who alerted us to these changes coming to the West Jet RBC World Elite Mastercard as of November 1st. The changes are both good and bad (mostly good) as West Jet and RBC continually work at evolving the card into a stronger product. The good news is lounge access and concierge service the bad news is increased fees for both the primary and secondary cardholders. First lets look at the good news The cards will come Master Card Airport Experiences, which is provided by Lounge Key. Lounge Key is a third party company that provides access to Business Class lounges much like Priority Pass except no everyone can get a membership with Lounge Key. They specifically partner with credit card companies to offer the service so you must have a credit card that is partnered with them. To our best knowledge the West Jet RBC World Elite Mastercard is the first card in Canada to offer the Master Card Airport Experience provided by Lounge Key. Much like basic Priority Pass memberships there is still a fee to access the lounges, you are simply getting the annual membership fee waived by having the credit card. It was inevitable but the annual fees on the card are also going up on November 1st. The West Jet RBC World Elite Mastercard was a hold out against all the other World Elite cards in Canada when they all raised their annual fees to $150 sometime ago at the request of Mastercard Canada. Still at $119 this is the cheapest World Elite card you can get and it still offers huge value in the sign up bonus, companion ticket offers and free first checked bag benefits! Then you'll only pay the old annual fees of $99/$49 for the first and not have to pay the higher fees until next year. As of November 1st the annual fees are $119 for the primary card and $59 for supplementary cards. Overall this is pretty good news for the card although I think it would be nice for them to offer up a couple of free lounge visits to offset the increased annual fees on the cards. That being said, knowing how West Jet and West Jet Rewards works I wouldn't be surprised if they are keeping that type of offer for limited time promotions in the near future. The Additional WestJet Dollars do not apply to product changes from another RBC credit card to the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard. Apply before April 30,2012 companion fare based on the T&C is valid for flights within Canada and the U. Applicable taxes and fees on the companion ticket are the responsibility of the traveller and must be paid at time of booking. The companion flight voucher is valid for travel anytime (excluding Hawaii and Puerto Rico) on West Jet-operated flights with no travel restrictions or blackout periods. The companion flight voucher is valid for new bookings only made through West Jet's Super Sales Centre within one year of issuance, cannot be applied to existing reservations or on new reservations made on external website in new window) and is not valid on group bookings and West Jet Vacations bookings. Your ticket and your companion's ticket must be booked at the same time and prior to the companion flight voucher expiry date. The $99 companion flight voucher may only be used as described, has no monetary or exchange value and is only available to the primary cardholder on a new West Jet RBC World Master Card account. Additional cardholders, as well as existing West Jet RBC World Master Card and West Jet RBC Master Card cardholders, are not eligible for the companion flight voucher or welcome bonus offer. Is there a deadline for buying the voucher, and then is there a deadline for using that voucher? (I have no doubt I will use the voucher eventually, but I want to stretch out the time it's available, so I can get maximum value.) Just applied for this. Kudos to the OP for the heads-up ^ Any idea how long it takes to receive the card (and for the Westjet Rewards account to be set up)? 15, 2012 It appears the promotion has reappeared with a $250 credit and the $99 companion ticket. This promotion essentially means I can get one ticket absolutely free, even on lowest fares (T&Cs state ANY fare). Got a couple of flights I am planning to book pretty soon, and would like to use the new card for these... The Alaska airline companion code gets posted in your account as soon as you get your card. Curious if anyone signed up for this card earlier this year and used the companion credit....? Here's the link: https:// No you can not get a free ticket to Hawaii and back. What has been the time-line for people to get the companion code in their account? The companion ticket offer excludes Hawaii, Puerto Rico and anything that is not US or Canada. It doesn't work on one ways and the first ticket must be full price, i.e. no discount codes (which are part of most West Jet sales). We've discussed in this forum that the annual fee has gone up, the interest rates have gone up (and maybe the fees merchants are charged since the card was changed from MC World to MC World Elite) and in return you get the companion round trip ticket ($99 taxes and fees). About this time last year there was a promotion with a $350 bonus for the signup.
